Offense on track in final Spartan football scrimmage
Three different quarterbacks each threw a pair of touchdown passes as the offense outdistanced the defense in the second and final San Jose State University football scrimmage of the fall practice session.

Beau Pierce, Scott Rislov and Adam Tafralis combined to throw scoring strikes to five different receivers in the 61-play scrimmage on the practice field. Along with Dale Rogers, Spartan quarterbacks completed 19-of-29 attempts with one interception for 239 yards.
Jamall Broussard, a junior college transfer from College of the Canyons, was the only player with two touchdown receptions. He and Rislov connected on scoring plays of 37 and 42 yards. Overall, Broussard had six receptions for 111 yards and was credited with a pair of rushing attempts for 13 yards.
"Every day, Jamall has raised his level of play," said San Jose State coach Fitz Hill. "He needed to learn our way of doing things and he has been up to the challenge."
Freshman wide receivers James Jones and Casey Miranda, tight end Courtney Anderson, and junior Kendrick Starling also had touchdown receptions.
Overall, the offense gained 478 yards which was equally divided between passing and running. Returnee Lance Martin and newcomer Oscar Rigg, locked in the battle for the number-one running back job, had big days. Martin rushed for 61 yards on four carries while Rigg gained 58 yards in the same number of attempts.
"The defense was flat (today). That probably had to do with a fatigue factor from our two-a-day workouts. The offense moved the ball up and down the field. I was pleased that there was only one turnover and that we had no fumbles," added the Spartan coach.
Practices continue through Sunday, August 25. The season begins August 31 against Arkansas State in Little Rock, Ark., in a 6:00 p.m. (CDT) non-conference contest.
