Paul Yu resigns as SJSU President; Don Kassing appointed Acting President
(August 2, 2004) San Josi State University President Paul Yu is resigning today from the presidency for health reasons.
Health issues are forcing Paul Yu to return to New York state. |
Yu, who officially became SJSU’s president in July, will return with his family to New York. Previous to coming to San Jos, he had been president of the State University of New York College at Brockport.
California State University Chancellor Charles B. Reed has appointed Don Kassing, SJSU vice president for administration and finance, as the acting president to head the campus, the oldest of CSU’s 23 institutions.
In the near future, Chancellor Reed, after consulting with the chair of the CSU Board of Trustees, will appoint an interim president.
“The trustees and I regret that Paul had to step down, but his health and family comes first. He certainly had the potential to be a great leader for San Jos. We wish him all the best,” Reed said.
"We regret that Paul Yu has had to resign as president of San Jose State University for health reasons. It has been a pleasure getting to know him in the past few weeks," Kassing said in an email to the campus community.
"We have a strong team at SJSU, and while we await a decision from the CSU Chancellor's Office on a new interim president, it will be business as usual as we will continue to focus on the strategic planning recommendations that previous interim President Joe Crowley set out for us. These include: transparency in budget planning, developing the Tower Foundation, and improving our information technology infrastructure."
