Pitcher Matt Durkin named 3rd team All-American
Tucson, Ariz.-----Freshman righthander Matt Durkin, who led the San Jose State University baseball team in victories and strikeouts, was named a 2002 Louisville Slugger third-team All-American.

Durkin finished the 2002 season with an 11-3 win loss record and a 2.75 earned run average. His 11 wins was a San Jose State University freshman pitching school record. He led the team with 85 strikeouts, pitched four complete games including two shutouts and combined for a third shutout.
Durkin’s selection marks the first time a Spartan freshman was named an All-American at the end of a season.
