Poch Named Senior Associate Athletic Director

John Poch has been tabbed to oversee fundraising efforts of the department.

John Poch, formerly the Executive Director of After-School All-Stars of Greater San Jose, has been named Senior Associate Director of Athletics / External Operations at <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>San JoseStateUniversity. Tom Bowen, Director of Athletics, made the announcement Thursday, October 16, 2008.

“We are very, very pleased to have someone as talented as John join our team at Spartan Athletics,” said Bowen. “What he has done with the After-School All-Stars program is impressive and serves as a model for similar programs around the country. With his strong and deep connections to the valley and San JoseState, John will expand our fundraising reach in the Silicon Valley.”

 

Poch is no stranger to Spartan athletics having served as an assistant women’s soccer coach from 1995-2000 and serving as the NCAA Women’s College Cup Director in 1999, held at Spartan Stadium.

 

In 2000 he took over the reigns of After-School All-Stars of Greater San Jose with a staff of one full-time person, one part-time person and an annual operating budget of $275,000. For the fiscal year of 2007-08, his program included a full-time staff of 36, part-time staff of 230 and an operating budget of $3.9-million comprised largely of dollars raised through Poch’s fundraising acumen and direction.

"Due to John’s efforts to build quality after-school programs, San Jose is a safer place for kids to succeed in school and in life.  We know John will serve and lead San Jose State University’s Athletic Department at the same high level that he has done at ASASSan Jose.”  

 

In his new role at San JoseState, Poch will oversee all fundraising efforts of the department.He will assume his duties with San JoseStateJanuary 5, 2009.
