Promotions For Four Athletics Administrators
San Jose, Calif.-----San Jose State University athletics administrators Matt Witty, Jody Smith, Michael Beaubien and Eric Howitt recently received professional promotions for the 2010-11 academic year.
San Jose, Calif.-----Four San Jose State University athletics administrators recently received professional promotions for the 2010-11 academic year. Tom Bowen, the Spartans' director of athletics, made the announcement.
Former assistant athletics directors Matt Witty and Jody Smith were promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations and Associate Athletics Director for Events & Facilities, respectively.
Michael Beaubien, former Director of Marketing & Ticket Sales, was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions.
Eric Howitt, previously Director of Equipment Services, now is the Director of Equipment Services, Branding and Licensing.
Witty first joined the Spartans in 2001 as a business office employee. He was the Assistant Ticket Manager from June 2002 until April 2004. After working at Marshall University and the University of Wisconsin in ticket operations, he returned to San Jose State in 2005 as the Assistant Director of Ticket Operations.
In June 2006, the 2001 graduate of Ball State University accepted the position of Athletics Business Manager. He was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Business and Finance in July 2008.
Smith came to San Jose State in 2008 after a long association with Stanford University. She was the Director of Special Events and the Avery Aquatic Center manager and the Associate Director for The Track and Field Foundation.
Most recently, the 1991 Stanford University graduate served as the Tournament Manager for the 2010 NCAA Men's Basketball Division I Championship First and Second Round games played in San Jose.
Beaubien joined the San Jose State Athletics Department in 2007. The 2001 University of Arizona graduate began his professional career at Columbia University in 2002 as the Director of Intramural Sports. Beaubien's first position in intercollegiate athletics was as the Assistant Athletics Director of Ticket operations and Promotions at Columbia.
Howitt came to the Spartans in 2008 from the University of California. Connected with college athletics since 2001, he worked in equipment services at Florida Atlantic University in 2001 and at the University of Cincinnati in 2002. He was the football equipment manager at UCLA in the 2002 season before moving to the University of California for a five-year stint (2003-08) as an assistant equipment manager.
He began his professional career in 1995 as a student manager for Oregon State University football. The 1999 graduate stayed at his alma mater into 2000. Howitt also worked for the San Francisco 49ers as a 2000 summer camp equipment intern.
