The 2008 Spartan Football season opens August 30 against UC Davis and Spartan fans will have added listening choices with the expansion of the Spartan Radio Network.

KLIV 1590 (San Jose / Silicon Valley) will once again serve as the flagship station for all Spartan Football broadcasts.

In addition to flagship station KLIV 1590 AM (San Jose) the Spartans can be heard on KION 1460 AM (Monterey / Salinas / Santa Cruz), KSWX 1280 (Stockton / Lodi) and our newest affiliate KFIV 1360 (Modesto / Turlock). Additionally all games can be heard on the Gold Zone at www.sjsuspartans.com and Yahoo! Premium.

San JoseState is also pleased to announce that Kevin Richardson will join play-by-play man Mike Chisholm as the color analyst for every game this season on the Spartan Radio Network.

“I am very excited about this opportunity,” Richardson said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the Spartan football family and broadcasting this outstanding product.”

Richardson was a 25-game starter at linebacker at Stanford University from 1984-88 for former San Jose State coach and Spartan Sports Hall of Fame member Jack Elway. Richardson participated in the 1986 Gator Bowl and the 1989 Japan Bowl All-Star Game and amassed 289 career tackles as the defensive signal caller.

Richardson has spent the last six years broadcasting both junior college and high school football in Northern and Central California, including broadcasts on Spartan affiliate KION in Salinas.

2008 will also see the return of former Spartan broadcaster John Shrader to the Spartan Network. Shrader will call the Spartans football contest at the University of Nevada November 15 while Chisholm travels with the Spartan Basketball team to South DakotaState and Nebraska that weekend.

Additionally, Shrader is serving as a consultant to the Athletics Department with an emphasis on enhancing broadcasting offerings, including an expansion of internet broadcasts on www.sjsuspartans.com.
