Sam Piraro Receives Contract Extension
San Jose, Calif.----- San Jose State University baseball coach Sam Piraro, who has directed the Spartans to post-season appearances in two of the last three seasons, has accepted a two-year contract extension from the university. The announcement was

The new contract between Piraro and San Jose State runs through the 2006 season.
Piraro has completed 16 seasons as the head coach and compiled a 536-384-4 win-loss record. The 2000 and 2002 Spartans teams participated in NCAA post-season competition with the 2000 squad making the school’s first and only College World Series appearance. Twice in San Jose State’s six seasons as a member of the Western Athletic Conference, he was named the conference’s "Coach of the Year."
"I’d like to thank (San Jose State University) President (Robert L.) Caret and Chuck Bell for extending my contract," says Piraro, who is the school’s winningest baseball coach. "There are many players, coaches, boosters and fans who have made significant contributions to help us achieve our success over the last 16 years.
"I’m looking forward to the next four years and building on what we’ve accomplished at San Jose State."
