Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. -
There was no change for the San Jose State University women's golf team during Thursday's third round of the NCAA Championships. The Spartans remain in 19th place heading into Friday's final round.

San Jose State posted a team score of 311 for a 926 total on the par 72, 6,106-yard El Campeon Course at the Mission Inn Resort. The third round team score was one shot better than Wednesday's 312 total, but not as good as the opening round of 303.

For the third consecutive day, the Spartans counted the scores of juniors Helle Gram and Marcela Leon and seniors Georgina Simpson and Jessica Krantz. Krantz, who played one-under par golf for the last 12 holes, had the team's best score with a two-over par 74.

"I had better rhythm and focused better today," said the Spartan senior, who matched her best score in 10 rounds of NCAA Championship competition.

Gram shot a 78, Simpson, 79, and Leon, 80 to go along with Krantz's 74 in the team scoring format. San Jose State did not count Rebecka Heinmert's 93 in the team scoring format.

"It was not a very good day of golf. We didn't capitalize when we had opportunities. You can't play a five-player sport with four players," said director of golf Nancy Lewis. "We're still not playing the par five's particularly well."

Lewis indicated she still hopes the team can match or better last year's 15th place finish.

"That's going to be our focus for tomorrow (Friday)," she said. The Spartans are 12 shots out of 15th place.

Duke broke out of a tie with Oklahoma State posting the best team score Thursday with a 290 for an 882 total. Georgia moved into second place at 886. Texas and Auburn are tied for third at 888. Oklahoma State dropped to fifth place at 892.

Louisiana State's Katy Harris took over the individual lead by shooting a two-under par 70 for a 212 total. Laura Moffat of UCLA, who led the first two rounds, is one shot back at 213 after posting a 75. Jimin Kang of Arizona State and Celeste Troche of Auburn at 214 and Ursula Tuutti of New Mexico State at 215 are the only other players in the 126-player field who are under par.

Gram is the top Spartan individual with her 229 total. She is in a tie for 51st place.
