COMMUNITY RELATIONS

San Juan Bautista Child Development Center

Oct.- Nov. 2006

To build goodwill and strengthen its community, Spartan Athletics will partner with the San Juan Bautista Child Development Center of San Jose for an extended program starting in October and throughout the month of November. Spartan student-athletes will visit a different site daily and interact with children up to twelve years of age.  <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Student-athletes are scheduled to visit a total of ten Child Development Centers throughout San Jose for a fun, relaxed inspirational experience.  These visits hope to foster early childhood aspirations of college and promote community responsibility and ownership. San Juan Bautista Child Development Centers are pre-school and extended day cares that serve 500 families and more than 1,372 children from infants-to-12 years of age.  The Centers’ mission is to provide children from disadvantaged families with support and opportunities for educational advancements, work placement, and coaching.

SJB Child Development Centers are located throughout San Jose.

With the help of the San Jose State Athletics SAAC Program; there were over sixty student-athletes and sixty hours of hard work to help make this outreach program a success. Each student-athlete said it was a wonderful and insighful experience which taught them just how much of a role model they can be to such a young individual. Being able to participate in this hands-on experience with the children of the San Juan Bautista Center will drive the student-athletes to future community outreach programs.
