After eight years of increasing responsibilities and professional accomplishments, Stacy Martin accepted the position of assistant athletics director for business at Kansas State University
San Jose, Calif.-----After eight years of increasing responsibilities and professional accomplishments in the San Jose State University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, Stacy Martin accepted the position of assistant athletics director for business at Kansas State University.
The 2002 San Jose State graduate also earned a M.B.A. in finance from her alma mater in 2005. Martin began her athletics administration career in the Spartans' Ticket Office. She moved to business operations in 2003 and earned promotions regularly for her outstanding work, particularly, dealing with issues of the challenging economic environment of the 21st century.
MARTIN'S UNIVERSITY IMPACT
"Stacy has been a vital part of our athletics administration for the past eight years and will be missed by many, not just in our department but across the San Jose State University campus. She provided incredible leadership during her tenure, especially in these tough economic times to balance our budget," states athletics director Tom Bowen.
"Stacy is a true Spartan who started as a student-athlete and then became an advocate them. We will miss Stacy, but are excited for the new opportunity for her professional career in athletics."
She leaves San Jose State as the senior associate athletics director/chief operating officer and the Spartans' senior woman administrator. Martin had oversight for the department's annual budget and provided guidance and management that resulted in surpluses in an unprecedented four consecutive years including the 2008-09 academic year.
Her duties also included sports supervision, future football scheduling of non-conference opponents and Western Athletic Conference committee appointments. The graduate of the Sports Management Institute, a specialized executive management program for sports professionals, Martin currently serves as the second vice-president of the College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA) and is in line to become the national organization's president in 2011-12.
CLOSER TO HOME
The mid-January move to Kansas State places Martin closer to her hometown of Omaha, Neb., where she was a state champion gymnast. As a San Jose State student-athlete, she was a four-year letterwinner, team captain her junior and senior seasons, and a Scholar-Athlete.
