Smith Named Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach
Todd Smith, who spent the last two years at the University of the Pacific as the assistant director of athletic performance, has accepted the position of assistant strength and conditioning coach at San Jose State University. The announcement was made by Kim Sword, San Jose State University's strength and conditioning head coach.
The 27-year-old native of Hamilton, Ohio, is a strength and conditioning specialist with eight years experience working with high school, college, professional and recreational athletes. His career began in 1992 at Badin High School in Hamilton, Ohio. Smith worked at the University of North Dakota from 1995 until he moved to California in 1998.
The last three years, he also was a strength and conditioning training camp assistant for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League and the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League.
Smith is a 1995 graduate of Miami University who is pursuing his master's degree through the University of North Dakota. He has published and contributed four abstracts to the publication "Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise."
He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the American College of Sports Medicine. The new Spartan assistant is certified by the NSCA as a strength and conditioning specialist and as a personal trainer and by the USA Weightlifting Federation.
