The 2007 Spartan Foundation Athletic Scholarship Fund Drive gets underway February 21, 2007 and the Spartan Foundation has a set a goal of raising $3 million for Spartan student-athletes’ scholarships!
The Spartan Foundation helps provide scholarship funds to many San Jose State University student-athletes through the donations of alumni and friends. The Spartan Foundation and the Spartan Foundation Executive Board are made up of volunteers who support San Jose State Athletics through action, gifts, and donations.
Spartan student-athlete scholarships are provided solely through donor endowments and donated funds. San Jose State University Athletics will pay more than $3.2 million in student-athlete scholarship fees this year.

“We are very excited about this opportunity,” said Vince Otoupal Associate Athletic Director for Development and Executive Director of the Spartan Foundation. “To be a part of San Jose State University and San Jose State Athletics at this time in history – in this capacity, is energizing.
“Last year, the Spartan Foundation drive workers, the “team behind the team,” set a significant goal of $1 million and then achieved that goal and more by establishing fundraising records in excess of our $1 million dollar goal.
This year’s goal of $3 million is attainable but only through hard work and diligence – the same characteristics that Spartan student-athletes and coaches apply in their respective sports and endeavors.
“Is $3 million a big goal? Yes. Can we reach it? Absolutely,” Otoupal said. “If it is to be done it is with the Spartans who make up the membership of the Spartan Foundation. This is what San Jose State Spartans do.”
Pledges to the Spartan Foundation are extremely important. We ask that our donors not only make their pledges, but that pledges are paid by June 30, 2007.
As ambassadors for the Athletic Department and San Jose State University, members of the Spartan Foundation help San Jose State University disseminate information about the University and the Athletic program. Members of the Spartan Foundation also help to educate, solicit, and thank friends and donors who support San Jose State Athletics.
We have a new saying here in Spartan Athletics: Impossible Is Just An Opinion. Help make the scholarship dreams of our fine student-athletes a reality.
