Spartan Stadium is home to the San Jose State football team and the men's and women's soccer teams. The football team has played its home games in the stadium since 1933. The Spartans won the first football game played in the stadium, 44-6, over San Francisco State on October 7. Since then, the Spartans have played 325 games over 67 seasons in this grass-field facility. The team's 100th win in Spartan Stadium came on October 21, 1968, as San Jose State defeated New Mexico, 52-14. SJSU's home field record is 199-109-17 entering the 2005 season.

Spartan Stadium currently seats 30,456 for football and soccer. Every seat puts the spectator either close or right on top of the action. Two stadium expansions and renovations in the 1980's increased the seating capacity from 18,000 to over 30,000.

The multi-purpose facility is the site of the school's annual commencement ceremonies. Concerts, professional and collegiate soccer, religious convocations, band competitions and high school football games take place at Spartan Stadium. The 1999 Women's World Cup and the 1999 NCAA Women's College Cup attracted record-setting crowds.

The stadium was thesite of two firsts in 2000. The Spartan football team beat a top-10 ranked team at home for the first time when San Jose State upset #9 and previously unbeaten TCU, 27-24, on November 4.

The largest attendance at a San Jose State home football game was a 31,681 sellout crowd on August 23, 2003, against Grambling State. The largest crowd to attend any type of event in the stadium was an estimated gathering of 37,000 ZZ Topp music concert.
