Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Officers Finalized

Spartan SAAC finalized its 2009-10 Executive Council on Sunday, October 4. Brittany Boehm of the women's soccer team had previously been chosen as Chair for the new school year.

San Jose, Calif. - The San Jose State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) finalized its Executive Council for the 2009-10 academic year during its most recent meeting on Sunday night, October 4. Four remaining vacant positions were voted on and filled.

Brittany Boehm, a redshirt junior on the women's soccer team, was previously chosen as the new Chair at the end of the 2008-09 academic year, replacing two-time Chair Justin Paysinger.

A native of San Ramon, Calif., Boehm served as Vice Chair, and, with Paysinger, represented San Jose State on the Western Athletic Conference SAAC a year ago. She helped San Jose State host the 2008 WAC SAAC Conference. Boehm, who served as Communications Coordinator in 2007-08, is a second-year WAC SAAC representative, having attended this summer's conference in Logan, Utah, back in June. She has started each of the past nine games at center back for the red-hot Spartan soccer team, undefeated over its last seven.

After earning both his undergraduate (child development) and master's degrees (kinesiology) at San Jose State and exhausting his eligibility as a center on the football team, Paysinger, from Los Angeles, Calif., and the 2008-09 WAC SAAC President, recently began a job within the academic services unit of the athletics department at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

Travis Jones, a two-year starting linebacker on the football team from Atascadero, Calif., and Kylie Miraldi, a sophomore and starting middle blocker on the volleyball squad from Grass Valley, Calif., will each serve in a Vice Chair capacity. A fifth-year senior and three-time Academic All-WAC honoree, Jones recently became one of just 11 players in the entire NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) to earn a spot on the prestigious Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team. He was the only player from a non-Bowl Championship Series (BCS) program to be selected for the national honor.

Jessica Khoshnood, a senior gymnast from Bellevue, Wash., is in her second year as the Spartan SAAC Treasurer. Jennifer Brumbaugh, a sophomore from Scotts Valley, Calif., and a member of the defending WAC champion women's golf team, is the new Communications Coordinator.

Two At-Large members were chosen as Aumornai Edinburgh (Sacramento, Calif.), a senior forward on the women's basketball team, and Tracy Pugh (Chino Hills, Calif.), a redshirt freshman defensive end on the Spartan football squad.

The Spartan SAAC, under the guidance and supervision again this year of Director of Student Services Whitney Rotrock, meets the first Sunday of every month as a full group, with the officers meeting additionally on the third Sunday of each month. Events in 2008-09 included the third annual Spartan Student-Athlete Talent Show in November, and the inaugural Sammy Awards inside the Morris Dailey Auditorium in May. Events for 2009-10 are to be announced.
