Veronica Porte has been named the Spartan Foundation Athlete of the Week after her performances last week for the women’s gymnastics team at the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Porte recorded the highest finish ever for a Spartan at the WAC Championships with a second-place finish on vault.  She scored a career-best 9.850 in earning first team All-WAC honors.  Porte was also the team’s best finisher on beam with a 9.800 and received second team All-WAC honors.  She added a 9.700 on bars and a 9.275 on floor.

The Spartans recorded its best finish at a WAC Championships with a second-place finish.  The team scored a 194.725, just .200 behind champion Boise State.  The team score is the seventh highest in school history.  San Jose State tied its best on floor with a 49.100.  

San Jose State has qualified for the 2008 NCAA West Regional and competes at Oregon State on Saturday, April 12.
