Cristina Corpus has been selected this week’s Spartan Foundation Student-Athlete of the Week for her performances last week for the women’s golf team at the Peg Barnard California Collegiate women’s golf tournament.

Corpus recorded her best tournament of her collegiate career as she tied for third place at the tournament. A sophomore from San Leandro, Calif., she posted a 36-hole total of 146 on the par 71, 6,117-yard Stanford University Golf Course after a final round 74. She opened the Spartans’ final regular-season tournament with a 72 and finished four shots back of medalist Karinn Dickinson of Washington who finished at even par 142.

Corpus now has six top-10 finishes in 19 college tournaments. She also has a fourth and a third place finish at the last two Ladies’ Philippine Open championships while playing for San Jose State.

The Spartans finished fourth at the tournament with a two-day total of 607. For the second consecutive tournament, San Jose State finished ahead of at least one top-25 team as #17 California tied for fifth at 609.

San Jose State next competes at the 2008 Western Athletic Conference Championships, April 21-23, in Fresno, at the Sunnyside Country Club.
