Thomasina Wallace has been named the Spartan Foundation Student Athlete of the Week for her performances at the NCAA West Regional.
Wallace had one of the best nights of her relatively young Spartan career at the West Regional meet. She won the bars with a 9.950 to tie the bars school record and became the first San Jose State women’s gymnast to win an event at a regional meet.
Wallace also tied the all-around school record with a 39.400 to place fifth at the meet. With her performances, she now advances in the all-around to compete at the NCAA Championships on April 16-18, in Lincoln, Neb. Wallace and teammate Veronica Porte are just the second and third Spartans to ever qualify to compete at the NCAA Championships.
For the meet, Wallace had a 9.750 on vault, a 9.950 on bars, a season-best 9.850 on beam and a 9.850 on floor.
Wallace and Porte will now compete at the NCAA Championships on April 16.
