Tanya Torres helped lead the ninth-ranked San Jose State women’s water polo team to a 2-0 record last weekend as the team won at Long Beach State, 13-6, last Friday and at #4 UC Irvine, 7-6, on Saturday.

In the upset of UC Irvine, Torres scored a career-best four goals in the match including the game-winner with 1:10 remaining in the match.  Her four goals helped San Jose State win its sixth consecutive match and extended the Spartans school-record winning streak.  The victory marked the second time this season that the team has beaten the fourth-ranked team in the country (#4 California, 14-13 in overtime on February 10.)

Torres scored twice in the second quarter on a power play and a penalty shot.  She added her second power-play goal to close out the scoring in the match.

Torres added three goals in the Spartans win over Long Beach State.  She scored one goal in the first quarter and added two goals in the fourth period.

She now has 25 goals on the season.

San Jose State concludes the home schedule this weekend with two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches.  The team hosts UC Santa Barbara this Saturday, April 14, at 11:00 a.m.  On Sunday, UCLA visits the Aquatics Center for a noon match.
