Name: Alyssa Sulay

Alyssa Sulay has been named the Spartan Foundation Student Athlete after her performances this past weekend for the 5-2 softball team.

In six games played, Sulay hit .368 with seven hits and a team-high nine runs scored.  She is a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases to lead the Spartans.  Sulay added a .684 slugging percentage and .429 on-base percentage and had three extra-base hits.

Her biggest hit of the week came in the first game of the season.  Against BYU, with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, Sulay hit her first home run in a Spartan uniform.  That home run was made even more special because her first home run was a grand slam, tying the game and sending it to extra innings.

Sulay and the Spartan softball team are off to their best start after seven games since 1994 with the 5-2 record.  After dropping games to BYU and Utah, the Spartans have won five consecutive games and host Cal State Bakersfield this Friday and Saturday at SJSU Field  with the doubleheaders beginning at noon each day.  The team also hosts Pacific on Sunday at 12 p.m., for a single game.
