C.J. Webster has been named the Spartan Foundation Student Athlete of the Week for his performances last week for the San Jose State men’s basketball team that finished the week with a 2-0 record.  The Spartans defeated Santa Clara, 62-59, which snapped a four-game losing streak to the Broncos, and Nevada, 62-60, which was the first time in 11 times to defeat the Wolf Pack.  The last Spartan win over Nevada came in Reno on March 2, 2002.

Against Santa Clara, Webster recorded his third double-double of the season.  He led the team with 11 rebounds, including six offensive boards, and added 12 points.  Webster was 6-of-16 from the field and added two assists, a blocked shot and a steal.

Webster led the team in scoring with 17 points in the win over Nevada at The Event Center.  He shot 63.6 percent from the field as he was 7-of-11 from the field and was 3-for-4 from the free throw line.  Webster grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked a shot.

For the week, Webster averaged 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in 65 minutes played.

San Jose State is 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the WAC.  The Spartans play at Hawaii Monday evening and host Fresno State this Thursday, January 17, at The Event Center.
