Caitlin Macky has been named the Spartan Foundation Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance with the women's swimming team last week.

She was a main contributor for San Jose State during a pair of dual meet victories and a first-ever Spartan victory at the UC Irvine Relay Invitational this past weekend. The true freshman out of West Hills High School in San Diego, Calif., compiled a team-best nine combined wins with four in individual and five in relay events over three days.

Macky won a pair of individual events and swam the breaststroke leg of the victorious medley relay during both of San Jose State’s two dual wins at Cal State Bakersfield. She first swam a 31.40 split to help the Spartan 200 medley A’ relay place first in 1:51.03 to open Friday’s 149-61 victory over the Runners. She later won the 200 individual medley in 2:13.24 by over a second and a half over freshman teammate Kirsten Trammell and took the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.97 by over three full seconds.

During Saturday’s 128-82 triumph at CSUB, Macky began the afternoon by timing 1:10.85 in her split for the first-place 400 medley relay. She then won the 400 IM in 4:46.51 by almost six seconds and the 100 breast in 1:09.16 as the only San Jose State entrant in each event. Macky was the only Spartan with more than one individual event victory on each day, sweeping all four that she competed in.

Macky rounded out her weekend by swimming on three first-place relays to share the high for her team as they won their first Ayres Relay Invitational title over host UC Irvine and Western Athletic Conference foes Boise State and San Diego on Sunday. She swam the breaststroke leg on the winning 200 medley relay to begin the day, and then led off the first-place 3 x 100 breaststroke relay with an unshaved lifetime-best split of 1:06.11, just .03 seconds off her collegiate best. Macky also swam the middle leg of the winning 3 x 100 individual medley, turning in a lifetime-best 100 IM split of 1:00.23. In between, she swam the anchor leg of the third-place 3 x 100 butterfly B’ relay for the Spartans, turning in the best 100-yard split of her five teammates, in 58.88. Macky also was the breaststroke leg of the second-place 400 medley relay. She competed in five of the 10 events on the day, compiling three first-place, one runner-up and one third-place finish.
