Ashley Tavita has been named the Spartan Foundation Athlete of the Week for her performances last week for the women's tennis team.

Tavita set the San Jose State career match wins (singles and doubles) with wins 106 and 107 against Cal State Bakersfield.  The Spartans won the match, 5-2, last Friday.

Tavita broke the previous record of 105 wins, which she shared with former San Jose State alumna, Rochelle Morrison, in doubles play with teammate Amber Silverstone.  The Spartan tandem defeated the Roadrunners’ Kaydee Graham and Kati Lynott, 8-4, in number-one doubles action.

For the season, Tavita is 10-7 in singles and 7-8 in doubles competition with Amber Silverstone.

The Spartan tennis team is now 7-6 overall.  The team travels to Las Vegas this weekend for matches against Southern Utah on Saturday and Idaho on Sunday.
