Vidal (1-1) pitched a career-high 8.0 innings and struck out a career-high six opposing hitters in earning his first win of 2007 during a 6-1 home victory over Southern Utah on Tuesday, March 20. He allowed just seven hits and an eighth-inning run. He did not walk a batter. Vidal retired 15 of the first 16 batters he faced, with just a one-out single in the second.

The second-year transfer out of Mission College and native of San Jose matched his high with six strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work in a tough 6-5 loss at home to New Mexico State on Sunday, March 25. He did not earn a decision in his second start of the week, although he left with a 4-2 lead.

Vidal faced the minimum amount of batters over the first four scoreless frames, with a one-out, first-inning walk and fourth-inning leadoff single both getting wiped out via double play ground balls. The one in the first was started by Vidal on a come-backer. Vidal struck out the side in the seventh around one Aggie run that made it 4-2. The run was unearned due to an infield error. With the bases loaded, Vidal struck out Richard Stout swinging. He gave up six hits, two runs, just one of them earned, and two walks in taming what was the WAC’s top offense entering the day with a .319 team batting average.

On the week, Vidal posted an ERA of 1.20 with a 1-0 record and 12 strikeouts over 15.0 innings. He walked just two batters and did not have any hit-by-pitches or wild pitches.
