Kyle Bellows has been named the Spartan Foundation Student Athlete of the Week for his performances last week for the baseball team.

For the week, Bellows hit .583 in five games started.  He had 12 runs scored, two double and four home runs.  Bellows drove in 17 runs and had a 1.167 slugging percentage.  He was also perfect in the field on 16 chances.

Bellows enters the week with a 10-game hitting streak, the longest of his career.

At New Mexico State, Bellows hit three home runs for the series including one in Friday night’s 24-5victory. He was 3-for-5 with a walk, four runs scored and four RBI.  Bellows hit two more home runs in the second game Saturday night.  He was 4-for-5 in the game with three runs scored a career-high seven RBI. 

With a 3-2 record last week including 3-1 at New Mexico State, the Spartans have clinched a berth at the Napa Auto Parts WAC Baseball Tournament May 21-24 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

San Jose State returns home this week for the final regular season games for 2009.  The Spartans host Stanford Tuesday night at 6 p.m., followed by a four-game series against Nevada this weekend, May 15-17.  All games will be played at Municipal Stadium.
