Hallsie Pacheco has been named the Spartan Foundation Student-Athlete of the Week for her performances for the women's soccer team last week.
Pacheco, a fourth-year senior, was instrumental in directing the Spartan midfield during a 2-1 home victory over rival Fresno State on Friday, October 30, a result that stretched San Jose State's school-record unbeaten streak to 14 games and ultimately helped it clinch the first regular-season Western Athletic Conference title in program history. Pacheco was one of four Spartans to play all 90 minutes, and was credited with one shot, on goal.
The native of Lodi, Calif., and 2006 graduate of Lodi High School then also played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss at Boise State in the Spartans' regular-season finale. Pacheco, recognized along with six teammates prior to the Fresno State match on Senior Night, has now appeared in 69 matches in a San Jose State uniform, with 45 starts, both figures most among active Spartans.
San Jose State next heads back to Boise, Idaho, this Wednesday morning, November 4, for the 2009 WAC Tournament. As the top-seeded regular-season champions, the Spartans have earned a first-round bye, and will await the winner of Thursday's match-up between Nevada and New Mexico State, in the first semifinal on Friday, November 6, at 11:30 a.m. Pacific.
