Ricky Dorrego has been named the Spartan Foundation Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance in the men’s soccer team's 4-1 victory over Sacramento State Saturday night at Spartan Stadium

Dorrego scored two goals and assisted on the other two as San Jose State closed out the 2008 regular season. It was the first multiple-goal match of the sophomore midfielder’s college career. Dorrego got the Spartans on the board early with a ninth-minute strike into the right side of the Hornet goal off assists by Colby Moore and Hiroki Akiyama. He then assisted Nick Cukar on what proved to be the game-winner, at the 14:23 mark, sending a long through ball. Dorrego gave the Spartans a commanding 3-0 advantage at the break, scoring his second at the 34:05 mark of the first period. He closed out his evening offensively by assisting redshirt freshman teammate Sky Cutler on his first collegiate goal, to seal matters at 87:32, feeding Moore, who in turn relayed to Cutler for the score.

For the game, all three of Dorrego’s shots were on goal, with two finding the back of the net. He played all 90 minutes to match his season long. The six points are a single-game career high for the product of Lincoln High School, one of four San Jose natives on the 2008 Spartan roster. Dorrego appeared in 17 of 18 games this year, all 17 of them starting assignments on the right side of midfield, and totaled a career-high 12 points from four goals and four assists, ranking in a tie for third on the team chart. His four goals were also third on the team. Ten of his 26 shots on the year were on goal.
