Adam Tafralis
Name: Adam Tafralis
Sport: Football
Year: Senior
Position: Quarterback
Senior quarterback Adam Tafralis has been honored as this week’s Spartan Foundation Student-Athlete of the Week after his performance in the 27-24 win over Nevada on Saturday.
Tafralis led a successful San Jose State second-half comeback and set school records in the win over Nevada. After the Spartans trailed 24-10 at halftime, he completed 16-of-23 passes in the second half, leading touchdown drives of 80 and 75 yards for San Jose State's first win over Nevada in six years. Tafralis also directed a 14-play, 67-yard drive that led to a Jared Strubeck field goal that pulled the Spartans to 24-20 at the start of the fourth quarter.
During the game, he established a new career record for completions (603) and extended his San Jose State career records for total offense and passing yardage. Tafralis also became the first Spartan quarterback to complete more than 60 percent of his passes in more than one season. He finished the game with his single-season school record 7th 300-plus yard passing game with 29-of-46 with one interception for 342 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2007, Tafralis established new school career records for total offense, passing yardage and number of completions leading the Spartans to victories in two of their final three games this season. He became the first San Jose State quarterback to complete at least 60 percent of his pass attempts in more than one season when he set the one-year mark of 65.6 percent during the 2006 New Mexico Bowl-winning campaign and followed up with a 62.7 percent figure as a senior. The Spartans won 18 games with Tafralis as the starting quarterback - the most for a San Jose State signal caller in 20 years.
