Senior Matt Castelo has been named the Spartan Foundation Student Athlete of the Week for his performance in the Spartans’ 34-14 win over UC Davis last Saturday afternoon.

Castelo, a linebacker from San Jose and Valley Christian High School, recorded a season-best 15 tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss against the Aggies. He was also credited with one pass break-up. Two of his 15 tackles in the game came on third-down plays that forced UC Davis into punting situations. Castelo notched his 16th career game of 10 or more tackles as San Jose State held its second consecutive opponent under 300 yards of total offense.

Castelo enters the Idaho game with 343 career tackles and ranks 27th national in total tackles at 10.2 per game.
