Student-Athletes & Coaches Participating In "Clothing Drive" Benefitting Sacred Heart Community Center

The inaugural "Spartan Clothing Drive," a community service project benefitting the Sacred Heart Community Center of San Jose and needy individuals in the city of San Jose, is underway. Collection bins are located in the Alan B. Simpkins Intercollegiate Athletics Administration Building across the street from Spartan Stadium.

The clothing drive is sponsored by the San Jose State University CHAMPS/Life Skills program, the Captains' Council of student-athletes in the school's intercollegiate athletics program and the Student-Athletes Advisory Committee.

"It (the clothing drive) was an idea our student-athletes had. They wanted to do something together that would involve all of our teams," said Ron Hannon, director of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program at San Jose State University. "They mentioned they had extra t-shirts and other clothes that they would have to pack up and take home or discard at the end of the semester. They decided this clothing drive would be a chance for people who are in need of some clothes to have something they could wear. Since some clothes would have the school's name on it, there would be more opportunities for people to see San Jose State's name in public."

The clothing drive will last through Wednesday, May 17. Collection bins with log in sheets are located in the rear of the Alan B. Simpkins Intercollegiate Athletics Administration Building. The Building is open on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
