SAN JOSE, Calif. The 1997 San Jose State University baseball team will be honored at this year's alumni game on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Blethen Field with the first pitch at 1:05 p.m. The team was the Western Athletic Conference Western Division Champio

SAN JOSE, Calif.— The 1997 San Jose State University baseball team will be honored at this year’s alumni game on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Blethen Field with the first pitch at 1:05 p.m. The team was the Western Athletic Conference Western Division Champions that season, compiling a 38-19 overall record and were 20-10 in WAC play.

Members of the 1997 squad in attendance include: Jeff Baker, Steve Bonomo, Steve Carrieri, Todd Duncan, Ryan McDermott, Javier Pamus, Steve Ashley, Brian Forman, Robert Berns, Tony James, Ryan Johnson, Jon Lauderdale and John Misplay. Represented the coaching staff from that season are Scott Hertler and Juan Batula.

Also participating in this year’s game are over 40 distinguished former Spartan players and coaches headed by legendary coach Gene Menges. Menges led the team for 17 seasons from 1970 to 1986, compiling a 467-434-4 record, and took the 1971 team into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1955.

The teams will begin warm-ups at 10:50 a.m. and the pre-game ceremonies will begin at 12:50 p.m. A post-game reception hosted by the Spartan Baseball Diamond Club will immediately follow the completion of the game.

The Spartans begin their 2002 season on Friday, Feb. 1 against St. Mary’s College at Municipal Stadium. First pitch will be at 2:30 p.m.
