Tom Hastings Moves To UC Santa Barbara
Tom Hastings, former Associate Athletics Director for Communications at San Jose State, joined the UC Santa Barbara Athletics staff as the Executive Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs.
Tom Hastings, former Associate Athletics Director for Communications at San Jose State, joined the UC Santa Barbara Athletics staff as the Executive Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs.
Hastings joined the Spartan staff in October 2006. He oversaw the sports information staff, marketing and promotions, video operations and the school’s official athletics web site. Hastings was the sport supervisor for volleyball, women’s swimming and diving and women’s water polo.
In March of 2007, Hastings was part of the San Jose State team that conducted the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship San Jose Regional at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. San Jose State will again serve as a host institution for the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship (first and second rounds).
Prior to joining the staff at San Jose State, Hastings served as the director of marketing for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in Colorado Springs, Colo. In that role, he directed all the marketing, public relations, merchandising, advertising, sponsorship and internet operations for the worldwide membership-based association.
Hastings spent seven years with the San Francisco 49ers as communications manager and manager of internet services. With the 49ers, he assisted in the creation and implementation of the 49ers’ public relations departmental policies, procedures and operational guidelines.
Prior to his tenure with the 49ers, Hastings served as the assistant director of athletic media relations at his alma mater, the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a member of CoSIDA, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and the United States Basketball Writers Association.
Hastings and his wife, Julianne, are the parents of three children.
