Twelve SJSU Fall Sports Student-Athletes Named to 2000 Academic All-WAC Team
Senior Julie Brum from the first San Jose State University women's soccer team to compete in an NCAA Championship tops a group of 12 Spartan student-athletes named to the 2000 academic All-Western Athletic Conference team.
Brum, a nursing major and now a three-time recipient of this combined athletic and academic award, was the leading scorer with seven goals and four assists on the San Jose State team that won the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. Recently, she was named to the school's list of students in the 2000 "Who's Who Among Students at American Colleges and Universities."
Her teammates, seniors Brandy Apodaca and Jolene Keel, junior Trisha Forni, sophomores Cynthia Harrah, Jessica Hernandez and Kelly Pryor were named to the academic All-WAC team.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year at the school, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and participate in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. Only student-athletes whose teams play a Western Athletic Conference schedule are eligible for consideration.
Women's cross country runners Janina Crain and Rebekah Harmer, football players Josh Parry and Tuati Wooden and volleyball players Stephanie Pascucci and Katherine Powers also earned 2000 academic All-WAC recognition.
172 student-athletes from the nine conference members were selected.
