Colorado Springs, Colo.-----San Jose State water polo greats Peter Ueberroth and Ed Rudloff are two of this year's six inductees into the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame. Induction ceremonies take place, Saturday, June 12, at the Del Mar Marriott in San Diego, Calif.
Ueberroth was a member of the 1955 through 1958 San Jose State teams. As a junior and senior, he was the leading scorer in the Northern California Water Polo League each season. The Chicago, Ill., native was invited to the USA Olympic team trials as a sophomore at age 19 in 1956 and made the team as an alternate.
The 1959 San Jose State graduate went on to a multi-faceted professional career that includes serving as the President of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee for the 1984 Summer Olympics, Commissioner of Major League Baseball and Chairman of the United States Olympic Committee Board of Directors.
Rudloff, like Ueberroth, was a San Jose State swimming and water polo star. Rudloff, who served as the Spartans' water polo coach in 1955, was in the water for the San Jose State in the 1940's. He is best known in water polo circles for a 63-match winning streak covering the 1957 through 1960 seasons as coach of the San Francisco Olympic Club AAU team. The Olympic Club won the 1957 AAU Outdoor National Championship, the club's first since 1924, and repeated as national champion in 1959.
Both Ueberroth and Rudloff are members of the San Jose State Sports Hall of Fame.
Olympic Games silver medalists Heather Moody and Kathy Sheehy, coach Jamey Wright and referee Bret Bernard join Ueberroth and Rudloff in USA Water Polo's Hall of Fame Class of 2010.
