University of Idaho Becomes Newest WAC Member
ENGLEWOOD The Western Athletic Conference Board of Directors today announced that an invitation for membership has been issued to and accepted by the University of Idaho to join the conference as full member effective July 1, 2005. The announcement c
"The University of Idaho is a good fit and has a long history with several of the current WAC members," said Commissioner Karl Benson. "It also has an academic program that is attractive, it has men and women’s athletic programs that we believe adds to the overall strength of the WAC and its location makes geographical sense for the conference."
Idaho, currently a member of the both the Big West and Sun Belt Conferences, is located in Moscow and has an enrollment of approximately 12,400 students.
Currently a 10-member conference, the WAC will consist of nine members -- Boise State, Fresno State, Hawai`i, Idaho, Louisiana Tech, Nevada, New Mexico State, San Jose State and Utah State -- when competition begins for the 2005-2006 season.
