Women third, men fifth at WAC Cross Country Championships

Eagle, Idaho.----- The San Jose State University women finished third out of eight and the Spartan men were fifth out of six teams at the 2005 Western Athletic Cross Country Championships held at Eagle Island State Park on October 29.

The women’s team posted a score of 107 on the 5,000-meter course. Tiffany Hall, 12th with a time of 18:20.12, and Erica Sahli, 13th, clocked in 18:21.87 respectively.

Junior Tiffany Hall and Sophomore Erica Sahli were both selected for Second-team-all-WAC.

Idaho’s Dee Olson was the individual winner with a 17:31.31 time, she was followed by Utah State’s Tiffany Strickland with a time of 17:41.83.

In Idaho’s first season in the WAC they won the team title with a score of 30. Utah State was second overall with a score of 43 and the Spartan women were third with 107 total team points.

“We met our team goal for the season, to finish in the top-3 in the WAC” said head coach Augie Argabright.

The Spartan men had a team score of 123. It was great race for Mobin Goury who was the first San Jose State competitor to cross the finish line in 7th place with a 26:06.09 time. Goury was also selected to First-team-all-WAC. Jose Burrola just missed the top-25 by one place with a time of 27:14.34.

In their first season in the WAC, Utah State won the men’s team title with a score of 16. Trevor Ball lead the Aggie’s by winning the individual competition in 24:12.87.
