Palos Verdes, Calif. (February 11) -----The San Jose State University women's golf team is in 15th place after the opening round of the TRW Regional Challenge tournament held at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.

Palos Verdes, Calif. (February 11) -----The San Jose State University women’s golf team is in 15th place after the opening round of the TRW Regional Challenge tournament held at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.

The Spartans posted a 314 score on the par 71, 5,912 yard course Monday. San Jose State is 31 strokes behind first-round leader Tulsa, which shot a one-under par team score of 283. Texas was the only other team in the 18-team field to score below 300 with a 297. Defending champion Arizona is third at 302. Wake Forest at 304 and Pepperdine at 303 round out the top five teams.

Tulsa took the team lead on the strength of Dani Mallon and Stacy Prammanasudh each shooting two-under par 69’s. No other players in the field were under par.

Senior Helle Gram was the top San Jose State finisher with a four-over par 75 and is tied for 16th place. Freshman Mariana Salazar was the only other Spartan to break 80 with a 79.

The 54-hole tournament continues with 18 holes on Tuesday and concludes on Wednesday.
