LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans kicked off the season with a tough 2-1 loss to 19th-ranked Santa Clara. SJSU struck first in the 62nd minute on junior Jamilecxth Becerra's strike, however Santa Clara answered twice in a span of five minutes to take the match.
MEET THE OPPONENT - PORTLAND PILOTS
The 1-0-0 Portland Pilots are led by first-year head coach Michelle French. In the first game under her belt, French led the Pilots to a 2-0 victory over Northern Arizona. Last season, Portland finished with a 5-13-1 overall record and was 2-7-0 in conference play.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the fourth overall meeting between the Spartans and Pilots with Portland holding a 2-1 advantage in those matches. SJSU's lone win came on September 19, 1999 in a 2-1 victory on the road.
HOMECOMING
Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson was a three-time All-American defender for the Portland Pilots from 1999-2002, garnering First Team honors in 2002. She served as team captain of the 2002 National Championship-winning squad and led the Pilots to three NCAA College Cup appearances (2000-2002). Hanson was recently announced as a member of the University of Portland Hall of Fame Class of 2018 and will be honored at a banquet in Portland on September 29.
BECERRA CARRIES SUCCESS IN 2018
Junior Jamilecxth Becerra netted the lone goal in the Spartans' season-opener to Santa Clara last weekend. The reigning Mountain West Newcomer of the Year was successful on 1-of-2 shot attempts to bring her career goals tally to eight.
