Tampa, Fla.—The Spartan volleyball team hit a season-best .312 as the San José State volleyball team swept Jacksonville 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-19) Saturday morning at the USF Invitational in Tampa.

The Spartans recorded a season-high 48 kills in the match on 96 attempts and only 18 errors. Haylee Nelson hit .556 as she led the team with 12 kills on 18 attempts and only two errors. Thaliana Grajeda hit a team-high .667 with nine kills on 12 attempts and only one error. Laura Parts also recorded nine kills in the win.

For their efforts during the Spartans three matches this weekend, Nelson and Grajeda were named to the USF Invitational All-Tournament team. Nelson hit .450 in seven sets played, averaged 3.29 kills per set and led the team with six blocks. Grajeda hit .433 and recorded three service aces.

Defensively, Luiza Andrade led team with 14 digs, while freshman Whitney Barnes recorded a season-high 10 digs. Grajeda and Barnes each recorded two blocks in the win.

Mamie Garard and Kaitlynn Zdroik split time at setter. Garard recorded 18 assists, a team-best two service aces and six digs. Zdroik had 19 assists and five digs.

The Spartans trailed in the third set by as many as three points to start before tying the set at 14-14. The team took the lead on a Jacksonville hitting error at 15-14 and extended the lead to six points with the final score of 25-19.

San José State returns home next week for the Blue/Gold exhibition on Saturday, September 1, at 2 p.m., inside Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Salvador Streets.
