This Week In Spartan Athletics - Sept. 17-23

Each Monday check out This Week in San José State Athletics to catch up on last week's action and see what's ahead for the Spartans!

Football (0-3, 0-0 Mountain West)
Last Week: SJSU scored five times in a 35-22 loss at #20 Oregon this past Saturday. Josh Oliver and Malike Roberson scored touchdowns, while Bryce Crawford made three field goals.
This Week: The Spartans have a bye this week and begin preparation for Hawaii on September 29.
Spartan Fact: Thai Cotrell broke a 96-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter.

San José State Sports Hall of Fame inductees honored.

Volleyball (5-4, 0-0 Mountain West)
Last Week: San José State went 1-2 at the Owls Classic last weekend, defeating South Dakota State 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-22).
This Week: The Spartans begin the Mountain West portion of the schedule with two matches. The team plays the first home match of the year this Thursday against Wyoming before traveling to Colorado State for a match on Saturday.
Spartan Fact: Fernanda Vido and Luiza Andrade were named to the Owls Classic all-tournament team.

Sept. 20 - Wyoming, Spartan Gym, 6 p.m., Mountain West Network
Sept. 22 - at Colorado State, 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT, Mountain West Network

Women's Soccer (1-4-2, 0-0-0 Mountain West)
Last week: The Spartans fell 1-0 at UC Riverside last Friday night.
This Week: SJSU begins Mountain West play with two home matches on Friday against Colorado College and Sunday versus Air Force.
Spartan Fact: With conference play beginning this week, just a reminder that San José State will be hosting the 2018 Mountain West Women's Soccer Tournament on October 30, November 1 and 3 at the Spartan Soccer Field.

Sept. 21 - Colorado College, 6:30 p.m. - Mountain West Network
Sept. 23 - Air Force, 12 p.m. - Mountain West Network
Both matches played at the Spartan Soccer Field.

Men's Soccer (2-4-1, 0-0-0 Western Athletic)
Last week: The Spartans went 1-1 last week after defeating #16 San Francisco, 4-1, last Monday before falling to Pacific, 3-0, on Sunday.
This Week: San José State opens Western Athletic Conference play with one match this week - at CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, September 22, at 7 p.m.
Spartan Fact: Willy Miranda scored two of the four Spartan goals against USF, including the game-winner.
Upcoming Schedule
Sept. 22 - at Bakersfield, 7:00 p.m.

Women's Golf
This Week: The Spartans swept the team and individual tites at the Minnesota Invitational. The team shot four under par to win the team title by 12 shots.
Spartan Fact: Natasha Andrea Oon won the individual title at nine-under par 207. She shot the best round of her young life on her 17th birthday with a five-under 67 in the first round.

Men's Golf
This Week: The Spartans are currently competing at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. The team was in fourth place after the first round at 5-under 283.
Spartan Fact: Sean Yu shot the low round for SJSU in the first round with a three-under 69 and was tied for fourth place.

Women's Tennis
This Week: The team starts the 2018-19 season in Las Vegas for the UNLV Fall Invitational.
Spartan Fact: Four Spartans return from last year's team that advanced to the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament - Tamara Culibrk, Miyo Kobayashi, Laura Malsert and Savannah Sendar.

Sept. 21-23 - UNLV Fall Invitational

Men's Water Polo (3-2)
Last Week: The Spartans finished with a 3-1 record at the Aggie Roundrup, defeating Chapman, 14-6, George Washington, 12-11 (SV) and Fresno Pacific, 10-9.
This Week: The team hosts Santa Clara on Friday, and travels to California on Saturday.
Spartan Fact: The Spartans overcame a two-goal deficit in the fourth quarter against #15 George Washington to post a 12-11 sudden-death victory.
Upcoming Schedule
Sept. 21 - Santa Clara, 6:00 p.m., Saratoga, Calif.
Sept. 22 - at California, 11:00 a.m.
