Spartans Outlast Santa Clara, 10-8

Sept. 21, 2018

Saratoga, Calif.----- Cade Baldridge scored the game winning goal and was credited with two steals in the final 2:10 of the match leading San Jose State University to a 10 - 8 non-conference men's water polo win over Santa Clara.

Baldridge's only goal of the match ended a string of four consecutive Santa Clara (3-4) goals and broke an 8-8 tie.

Justin Pickering of the Spartans (4-2) was the leading goal scorer in the match with three. His final goal with 1:35 remaining preceded Baldridge's two steals. Teammates Seanan McManus and Neil Arnett scored twice each as San Jose State won its third in a row. Goals by Marc Weber and Bradley Dennis rounded out the Spartan scoring.

Goalkeeper Yahav Fire was credited with 11 saves for San Jose State.

"I'm excited for the spirit of the guys, because that means we're going to get better and better as the weeks go on. And it was a good game because Santa Clara played really well," said San Jose State men's water polo head coach Bruce Watson.

The Spartans close out the weekend taking on #4-ranked California on September 22, in Berkeley. The match begins at 11:00 a.m.
