#17 Spartans Lose At #4 Cal, 22-1

Berkeley, Calif.----- Giacomo Lovatelli scored San Jose State's only goal of the match on a third-quarter power play in a 22-1 non-conference men's water polo loss to #4-California.

The Golden Bears (10-1) ended the #17-Spartans (4-3) three-match winning streak. San Jose State had defeated unranked Santa Clara, 10-8, less than 16 hours earlier.

Cal led 15-0 before Lovatelli's goal.

San Jose State played three goalkeepers. Yahav Fire was the starter and was credited with two saves in the first quarter. T.J. Palmer stopped one shot in the second quarter. By that time, Cal was ahead, 13-0. James O'Brien finished the match and was credited with three saves.

The Spartans return to action, Saturday, September 29 traveling to #3-Stanford for a 1:00 p.m. match at the Avery Aquatics Stadium.
