Spartans Fall 3-0 At Colorado State

Fort Collins, Colo.—Fernanda Vido led the Spartans in kills and digs Saturday as the San José State volleyball team fell at Colorado State 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 26-24) inside Moby Arena in Fort Collins.
 
Vido recorded nine kills and nine digs to lead the team. She added a solo block during the match.
 
In all, seven Spartans recorded at lease one kill during the match. Thaliana Grajeda and Caitlin Bettenay each had six kills, while Ryann Thomison recorded three.
 
Defensively, Luiza Andrade and Bettenay each had six digs. Haylee Nelson and Whitney Barnes each recorded three blocks (one solo, two assists) to lead the team.
 
After losing 25-15 and 25-16 for the first two sets, San José State had its best hitting set during the third set, hitting .206 with 13 kills. The Spartans battled during the set, taking an early 3-1 lead. The team fell behind 11-5, forcing a timeout, but slowly chipped away at the lead and tied the set at 13-13. The two teams battled back and forth before San José State had set point at 24-23, before CSU called a timeout and scored the final three points to win 26-24.
 
San José State is now 5-6 on the season and 0-2 in the MW. The Spartans return home for two matches next week – Thursday the 27th against Utah State at 6 p.m., and Saturday the 29th at 12 p.m. All home matches are played inside Spartan Gym, located on the corner of Fourth and San Carlos Streets.
