Las Vegas, Nev.----- Miyo Kobayashi and Tamara Culibrk won their singles matches in straight sets and the doubles team of freshmen Alba Pedrero Galindo and Kristina Baran split a pair of matches to highlight San Jose State University's second day in the UNLV Fall Invite women's tennis tournament.
Kobayashi defeated Northern Arizona's Elrene Granville, 7-5, 7-5, to advance to a consolation final championship. Culibrk defeated Ghita Wiess of Southern Utah, 6-2, 6-1, and advances to a consolation championship match in a separate eight-player bracket.
Pedrero Galindo and Baran topped the Southern Utah University pair of Jessica Stefan and Daniela Cozzi, 6-3. The Spartan duo was defeated by the Northern Arizona University doubles team of Emilie Haakansson and Cora Lynn von Dungem, 6-3.
"We had another tough start in doubles, but I'm a little more pleased with our singles (Saturday)," said San Jose State tennis head coach Chad Skorupka who added temperatures on the courts were a desert-like over 100 degrees each of the first two days.
"These tough weather conditions will help us later this fall."
The Spartans conclude their play in the UNLV Fall Invite with Baran playing for third place in one of the singles brackets. San Jose State's three doubles teams and six other singles players will be playing either in a consolation bracket final.
