Sammamish, Wash.----- For the second tournament in a row this season, the San Jose State University men's golf team placed fourth. This time it was at the 12-team Husky Invitational played on the par 71, 6,911-yard Aldarra Golf Club course.
The Spartans finished with an 1,116 team score in the six-player, score five format. Host Washington was the team winner with a 1,086 total. Nevada at 1,102 and Boise State at 1,111 also finished ahead of San Jose State.
Sean Yu, who finished 54 holes with an even par 71 for a 218 total, and Ben Campbell, at 220 finished among the top-10 individuals. Yu tied for seventh and Campbell tied for ninth, his best finish at the major college level.
Kevin Velo improved his score each round and tied for 23rd at 225. Freshmen Matt Heitel tied for 31st at 227 and Parker Sisk tied for 40th at 230. Bryce Wortman bounced back from a second-round 87 and shot a 74, his best score of the tournament to tie for 60th at 239.
Washington's Robert Moran was the medalist with a 212. He was the only player in the 76-player under par after three rounds. Moran's teammate Noah Woolsey and second round co-leader Joey Vrzich of Nevada tied for second at 214.
San Jose State returns to action Monday, October 8, playing in the Alister Mackenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club in Corte Madera, Calif.
