Spartans Set To Host Colorado State and Wyoming

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San José State women's soccer will host their final two Mountain West home matches this weekend at the Spartan Soccer Complex. Sunday's game vs. Wyoming will be senior day. A pre-game ceremony for our three seniors will be held prior to team introductions.

The Spartans picked up a pair of huge road wins over Nevada and UNLV to improve to 5-1-0 in MW play.

MEET THE OPPONENT – COLORADO STATE       
Colorado State enters Friday's match at 5-5-4 overall and 2-2-2 in Mountain West play. The Rams, led by sixth-year head coach Bill Hempen. The Rams started off sluggish in Mountain West play but have since picked things up, going 2-0-1 against Utah State, Air Force and Colorado College in their last three outings.

SERIES HISTORY – COLORADO STATE
SJSU and Colorado State have met four times with the Spartans going undefeated in those matches (4-0). Last season's game was played in Fort Collings on September 29, 2017 as the Spartans took a 1-0 victory in overtime to extend their win streak to five-straight.  

MEET THE OPPONENT – WYOMING
Wyoming is currently tied for third in the Mountain West standings with a 3-2-1 record and sit at 8-3-3 overall. The Cowgirls have conference wins over New Mexico, Utah State and Colorado College and tied Air Force 1-1 in their last outing. Wyoming is led by Pete Cuadrado in his seventh season.

SERIES HISTORY – WYOMING
The Spartans lead the all-time series with Wyoming 5-2. The Cowgirls got the win last season, however, in a 1-0 affair in Laramie.  

SPARTANS LEADING THE PACK
SJSU leads the Mountain West and ranks 38th nationally in goals against average with just nine goals allowed in 13 games for an average of .659 percent.

IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST STANDINGS
SJSU currently sits in second place in the Mountain West standings at 5-1-0 (15) and is nipping on the heels of the leader-Boise State (5-0-1).

SIMONEAU STANDING OUT
Senior goalkeeper Paige Simoneau has been rock-steady for the Spartans, conceding just eight goals while tallying 36 saves and pitching six shutouts. The Corona, Calif. product has posted a 6-5-1 record and has guided the Spartans to four shutous in their first six Mountain West games. Simoneau picked up MWC Defensive Player of the Week honors following her shutout against Kansas State on September 2.

WYNNE PICKS UP POTW HONORS
Freshman Haleigh Wynne had a big weekend on the road for the Spartans as she netted the first two goals of her career that just happened to be game-winners. Her first game-winner broke a 1-1 tie at Nevada and her second came two days later in a 1-0 win at UNLV. For her efforts, Wynne was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week.

Sunday's game vs. Wyoming is senior day. The Spartans will hold a ceremony honoring our three seniors -  Aspyn Audibert, Darriell Franklin and Paige Simoneau – prior to lineups to start the game.
