San Jose, Calif.—Thaliana Grajeda hit .500 for the match, and three Spartans recorded double-digit kills as the San José State volleyball team defeated Nevada, 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21) in a Mountain West match at Spartan Gym.
Grajeda was one of the three Spartans in double-figure kills with 10. She took 18 swings and had just one hitting error in hitting .500. She also led the team with five blocks, two solo and three assists.
Latahevai Lousi led the Spartans with 16 kills, her third consecutive match with double-digit kills. Fernanda Vido recorded her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs in the win.
Defensively, Luiza Andrade recorded 25 digs to lead the team. She is just one dig shy of tying Dawnis Wilson for second place on the San José State career digs list. Andrade enters Thursday night's match with 1,411 digs in 106 matches played in a Spartan uniform.
Setter Kaitlynn Zdroik was just one dig shy of her first career double-double as a Spartan as she recorded 29 assists and a career-best nine digs.
The Spartans also welcomed back Giulia Gávio back to the Spartan Gym court after missing the beginning of the season recovering from an injury. She recorded eight kills, 12 digs and a team-best three aces in the win.
For the third time in four matches and the fifth time this season, San José State collected 10 or more service aces in a match. Tonight's 10 aces were distributed among five players – Gávio with three, Zdroik, Andrade and Vido with two and Mamie Garard with one.
San José State improves to 7-9 on the season and 2-5 in the MW. The team heads right back on the road for a match at Air Force Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. MT/5:30 p.m. PT. The Spartans return home next week for two matches inside Spartan Gym – Thursday, October 18 versus San Diego State at 6 p.m., and Saturday, October 20 against Fresno State at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the door - $8 for adults and $5 for children five and under.
