Simoneau Breaks Shutouts Record as Spartans Defeat Colorado State 1-0

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose State women's soccer senior goalkeeper Paige Simoneau had a night to remember as she set the school record for career shutouts as the Spartans defeated Colorado State 1-0 on Friday to win their fourth-straight conference game.

Simoneau entered the match tied for the shutouts record at 16 with former teammate and current volunteer assistant coach Zoe Makrigiannis. She made just one save on the evening but that was all that was needed as the Spartans defense limited the Rams to just five attempted shots. The shutout is also No. 7 on the season for Simoneau, which is tied with Makrigiannis for the most in a single season.

SJSU found the net late in another thrilling one-goal victory as Darriell Franklin scored from inside the box off a beautiful pass from Jamilexcth Becerra. Becerra drove into the box as she juked defenders and found Franklin just to her right who placed the ball into the lower left corner of the net for the game-winner. The goal was the 20th of Franklin's career and her third of the season.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 6-1-0 in Mountain West play and sit firmly in second place just behind Boise State (6-0-1) for the conference lead. SJSU attempted 10 shots to the Rams' five, led by Franklin's three attempts.

Up next for SJSU is a showdown with Wyoming on Sunday, October 14, at noon PT at the Spartan Soccer Complex in the Spartans' final home match of 2018. Senior day festivities will began approximately 15 minutes before kickoff.
