Stanford, Calif.----- All three San Jose State University women's tennis doubles pairs won their first-round match at the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Northwest Regional Championships at the Taube Tennis Stadium on the Stanford University campus.
Laura Malsert and Mathilda Vidgren topped Hannah Gianan and Kyra Jung of Seattle University, 8-3. Tamara Culibrk and Alba Pedrero Galindo defeated Alli Valk and Eszter Zador of Portland State, 8-2. Senior Miyo Kobayashi and sophomore Savannah Sendar beat Carolina Chernyestsky and Jayden Nielsen of Sacramento State, 8-4.
Malsert and Vidgren and Culibrk and Pedrero Galindo were teaming for the first time as Spartans. Kobayashi and Sendar teamed together three times last fall.
Culibrk, Kristina Baran and Pedrero Galindo were first-round singles winners. Baran lost to #1-seed Stacey Fung of Washington, 6-1, 6-4 in second round action. Culibrk was defeated by #3-seed Melissa Lord of Stanford, 6-1, 6-2 and Delara Zamani of Wahington beat Pedrero Galindo in the second round, 6-4, 6-1.
The weekend championship tournament continues on October 20 with doubles starting at 9:00 a.m., followed by singles matches in the championship and consolation brackets.
