"We didn't have our best day; that's for sure. We're focusing on what we need to do tomorrow. We're only three back. It's time to get one going," said San Jose State University men's golf coach John Kennaday.
"We need to play a better game. We got a little too outcome-oriented (in the second round). We need to get more into the process and focus on the things we can control."
Individually, Sean Yu turned in the best score for San Jose State in round two with a two-under 69. His round included five birdies and three bogeys and reflected the up-and-down nature of his teammates. Matt Heitel was next with a one-under par 70. First round leader Kevin Velo birdied four of his last 10 holes to finish at even par 71 and a 135 total.
BYU's Peter Kuest and Long Beach State's Joe Fryer moved ahead of Velo in the individual standings. Kuest is in first place at 133 after a 67. Fryer turned in a 65 and is second at 134.
Velo is tied with three other golfers for third place at 135 including Nevada's Sam Harned whose 64 was the best score of the second round.
