New York, N.Y.----- For the third time this season, San Jose State University senior Josh Oliver was recognized by the John Mackey Award as one of the top tight ends of the week.
Oliver caught five passes for 70 yards and a touchdown in the Spartans' 50-37 victory over UNLV on Saturday, October 27.
Previously, he was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week for games ending the week of September 29 when he caught eight passes for a career best 158 yards and a touchdown in a 44-41 five-overtime loss to Hawaii.
The 6-foot-5, 250-pound three-year starter began the 2018 season as an honorable mention designee for his eight receptions for 86 yards in the August 30 season opener versus UC Davis.
For the season, Oliver leads all tight ends in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 44 receptions and 514 receiving yards. her is 48th nationally in receptions per game at 5.50.
The 2018 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 5, 2018 and then presented live on December 6, 2018 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. The John Mackey Tight End of the Week is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. This weekly honor was started in 2004 to draw attention to individual play by Tight Ends during the active season. The Tight End of the Week acknowledgment does not have a direct bearing on the final John Mackey Award selection process. The John Mackey Tight End of the Week honor will run until the announcement of the eight Semi-Finalists.
